Scattery Island Heritage Group (SIHG) participated in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2022, after two years of lockdown. We were delighted to take part, the idea for the float came from a photograph of a Scattery Pilot boarding a vessel near the Island in 1953.
Some of those who took part on the float are Scattery Island descendants. Our Pilot on the day for the parade was Alan Madigan, assisted by his daughter Caoimhe. Also representing Island women and children were Caroline Wilson and Bríd O’ Mahony, from SIHG Ruairí and Páraic Young.
The project was managed and co-ordinated by Caroline Wilson and Bríd O’ Mahony. Huge thanks to Kevin Burke and David Coughlan who assisted greatly with transportation and carpentry skills to pull the float together very professionally. Our entry was awarded the Perpetual Cup for 2022,and Best Creative entry. The smiling faces accepting the prizes on behalf of the SIHG say it all! Thanks to everyone for their help and to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee for their acknowledgement of the group’s work.
