Michael McMahon's Maritime Links Remembered

Patrick Galvin

Michael McMahon served in the rank of Able Seaman on The “Kerry Head” a vessel owned by Mullock & Sons of Limerick. Michael was lost at sea in 1940, aged 20 years, as can be seen from the inscription at the back of the picture, when the vessel was bombed. He had only completed a few trips at this point of his life.

Mullock & Sons have kindly agreed to share the crew list from The “Kerry Head” with us, with thanks to Patrick Galvin for getting their permission. You can view the crew list here:Crew List Kerry Head. As can be seen from the crew list, another Scattery man, Stephen McMahon also served on the “Kerry Head” at the time, in the rank of Chief Mate.

Michael’s photograph and story was kindly shared by Patricia Galvin (Née McMahon) and Patrick Galvin Pilot, Cappa. Patricia and Michael McMahon were brother and sister.
